  • Alvaro Pepe - our Argentina exchange student arrived safely home!
  • Flight to End Polio:
    • They successfully reached Honolulu from American Samoa flying 16 hours and 49 minutes this past weekend.
      Flight Plan Update:
Flight To End Polio will be leaving Maui Tuesday, July 25 at 3am (Hawaii Standard Time) and flying to Oakland, California. This will be a 14 or 15 hour flight. The pilots said that the winds are looking good and a mechanic has checked over the plane - all is well.
They will arrive in Oakland on Tuesday, July 25 around 6pm PDT.
They will leave Oakland on Wednesday, July 26 and fly to Temecula, California with an expected arrival time of 11am PDT.
The Rotary Club of Temecula event is from 6-8pm July 26.
Then they will decide if they fly to Colorado on Thursday or Friday. And then the big homecoming event happens Sunday morning, July 30 in Cedar Rapids! Breakfast 7-11am, Landing expected around 9am.
As for this Maui to Oakland flight, the pilots again expect that radio frequencies won’t be good over the Pacific - tracking them on flightaware.com (or similar) may be difficult until they get closer to land.

All Linn County Rotary Clubs organize, fund and volunteer for the annual Pribyl Rotary Golf tournament for youth each August.

Note the last item below:  Join the Metro planning committee to help this year, and perhaps step-up and lead it in 2024!
    • We had a record number of total participants in 2022, and we were only one shy of our record number of female participants.
    • Live scoring was introduced in 2022, following a complete website redesign in 2020.
    • Corporate sponsorship for Service Above Self Component continues to be completely subsidized and results in $1,200 being donated to area charities each year.
    • Because of heat concerns in early August, we also received complimentary bottled water last year from Culligan in Marion for all four days of the tournament.
    • The cost per golfer comes out to just under $12 – and that includes free golf and range balls at all courses and a Rotary-branded keepsake.  It is an incredible value, and it gives us plenty of Rotary and Event visibility through the media, at the golf courses, at area schools and through all the parents and spectators that come out each day to watch the kids.
    • 2023 will be the last year for the committee chairs. Finding new leadership will be essential if the tournament continues beyond this year. Contact Lynette if you are interested!

Peter Teahen and John Ockenfels are raising awareness for polio eradication by piloting a single engine aircraft all the way around the globe!
Peter and John departed from Cedar Rapids, Iowa May 5, 2023 in a Cessna T210M (single engine) airplane. Along the way, they will attend events and encourage support of ending polio forever throughout the world.

YOU can promote the flight, start conversations, and raise Polio funds for Rotary with friends and strangers!

Rotarians and friends in D6000 and D5970 are promoting awareness and this fundraising effort. Donations will go toward PolioPlus Fund.
