Peter Teahen and John Ockenfels are raising awareness for polio eradication by piloting a single engine aircraft all the way around the globe!
Peter and John will take off from Cedar Rapids, Iowa May 5, 2023 in a Cessna T210M (single engine) airplane. Along the way, they will encourage support of ending polio forever throughout the world.

Promote the flight, start conversations about Rotary and Polio with friends and strangers!

Rotarians and friends may order a t-shirt to support the flight around the world to end polio that John Ockenfels (District 6000) and Peter Teahen (District 5970) will be completing May - July, 2023.

Rotarians and friends in D6000 and D5970 are promoting awareness and this fundraising effort. Donations will go toward PolioPlus Fund.

What Will Be Our Sunrise 2023-2024
    Community Service Project?

Suggest Community Service Project for Sunrise Rotary.
    • Half the cost comes from a Rotary Foundation District Grant we apply for in June 2023.
    • Half the cost comes from our share of the golf fundraising event net proceeds
Funds are requested in early June.  The money arrives in late August.

We are fundraising in ONE Event this year - the May 25 Scramble Fore Kids golf event.  That will determine our budget and therefore our project and its size.

We need ideas before May to quickly apply when the money raised is known.    Email or call Bruce
    Rotary Pribyl Golf
    July 21 - August 3 2023

All Linn County Rotary Clubs organize, fund and volunteer for the annual Pribyl Rotary Golf tournament for youth each August.

Note the last item below:  Join the Metro planning committee to help this year, and perhaps step-up and lead it in 2024!
    • We had a record number of total participants in 2022, and we were only one shy of our record number of female participants.
    • Live scoring was introduced in 2022, following a complete website redesign in 2020.
    • Corporate sponsorship for Service Above Self Component continues to be completely subsidized and results in $1,200 being donated to area charities each year.
    • Because of heat concerns in early August, we also received complimentary bottled water last year from Culligan in Marion for all four days of the tournament.
    • The cost per golfer comes out to just under $12 – and that includes free golf and range balls at all courses and a Rotary-branded keepsake.  It is an incredible value, and it gives us plenty of Rotary and Event visibility through the media, at the golf courses, at area schools and through all the parents and spectators that come out each day to watch the kids.
    • 2023 will be the last year for the committee chairs. Finding new leadership will be essential if the tournament continues beyond this year. Contact Lynette if you are interested!
Metro Rotary Projects to be Chosen
Sunrise Members will vote with all Linn County Metro members for one of these three.

    1.  Boys and Girls Club toward the capital campaign for their new building.  This was our program March 23.

    2.  Linn County Trails Association for them to continue their path across Cottage Grove near Washington High School (they have matching funds to complete this project). This is our program on June 13.

    3.  The Shakespeare Garden in Ellis Park toward their capital campaign. They have raised enough for Phase 1 and we would be assisting with Phase 2.  This is our Program on April 13.

Alvaro is in his second semester. He also finished his remote learning school work for his Argentina term!  He is working hard to keep up both programs.

His parents support him to take the 'discover America' youth exchange bus trip, after school is out with other exchange students!   West to CA, return through AZ, TX... deep south, Orlando, up the east coast to Philadelphia and then back to Chicago. Then he will return to Argentina.

Alvaro is with Rob and Sara as his new host family, and the family of his best friend Trevor.  Spring Break trip was to OK and TX!
