    District Conference in Waverly
    The District Conference is coming up.  It will be held in Waverly Friday April 21 10AM through Saturday April 22 4PM. Come for part or all of the days.  It is close enough to commute or car-pool.   A limited hotel event block-rate is available too.  To register please go to the the District Conference link.   The Conference Agenda is here. 
     
     
    Buy a Duck AND donate to The Rotary Foundation in the District Conference Duck Pluck on-line for $5.42 each.  You can also buy ducks from Theresa Mickelson with a check for $5 each payable to The Rotary Foundation.   REMINDER to those who are PolioPlus Society members, you can fulfill your pledge of contributing $100.00 per Rotary year by buying 20 ducks in the Duck Pluck.
     
    Flight to End Polio - Departing May 5

    Peter Teahen and John Ockenfels are raising awareness for polio eradication by piloting a single engine aircraft all the way around the globe!
    ​
    Peter and John will take off from Cedar Rapids, Iowa May 5, 2023 in a Cessna T210M (single engine) airplane. Along the way, they will encourage support of ending polio forever throughout the world.
     
    Tee Shirts are available to order until March 31. 

    Promote the flight, start conversations about Rotary and Polio with friends and strangers!  
     
    Rotarians and friends may order a t-shirt to support the flight around the world to end polio that John Ockenfels (D6000) and Peter Teahen (D5970) will be completing May - July, 2023.  Rotarians and friends in D6000 and D5970 will be promoting awareness and this fundraising event to raise money that will go toward PolioPlus Fund Contributions. The t-shirts cost $21 and $8.50 of that will go toward a donation to the PolioPlus Fund.  Rotarians and friends in D5970 are encouraged to order before March 31.  https://endpolionow.itemorder.com/shop/home/
    What Should Be Our 2023 Community Project?
     
    Suggest community service projects.  
    • We apply for half the cost through a Rotary Foundation Grant in June.
    • Half the cost comes from our share of the golf event net proceeds
    Funds are requested in early June.  The money arrives in late August.   
     
    We are fundraising in ONE Event this year - the May 25 golf event.  That will determine our budget and therefore our project and its size. 
     
    We need ideas before May to quickly apply when the money raised is known.    Talk to Bruce. 
    Alvaro Pepe - Youth Exchange Update
    Alvaro's 2nd Term classes:
    • US Humanities and Composition
    • US History
    • Current World Issues
    • Performance PE
    • Spanish III
    • Geometry
    • Signed up for Track! 
    Alvaro is in his second semester. He also finished his remote learning school work for his Argentina term!  He is working hard to keep up both programs. 
     
    His parents support him to take the 'discover America' youth exchange bus trip, after school is out with other exchange students!   West to CA, return through AZ, TX... deep south, Orlando, up the east coast to Philadelphia and then back to Chicago. Then he will return to Argentina. 
     
    Beth and Brian - his first host family - took him to Florida.  He is with Rob and Sara now as his new host family and the family of his best friend.  Spring Break is in OK and TX!
