Sunrise Rotary Flood Relief Update
The Cedar Rapids Sunrise Rotary is giving out another $2000 from monies received from other chapters across the nation for flood relief for a project that will be bringing in 600-700 youth over a 6 week period each of the next 3 years to help with projects related to the summer flooding. In order to house this group, Camp Hitaga, is in need of some updates and additional facilities.
Once in Cedar Rapids, these youth are scheduled to be working on homes and community projects to help revitalize Cedar Rapids after the devastating floods. Many of the flood victims are still not back in their homes for a variety of reasons and this additional help will speed up the process.
In addition to this $2000, below is a list of the other projects these monies have helped:
$1500 -Book It - A program that works in collaboration with the Cedar Rapids police Department in giving kids books. All the books were stored in the basement of the Cedar Rapids Police station. The station was flooded and all the books were destroyed. This helped get the program back up and running.
$1600 - Landon Cassill Relief effort - Landon Cassill is a NASCAR driver from Cedar Rapids who did a benefit that raised over $50,000. Money given was matched up to $10,000 by four other NASCAR drivers as way of helping out Cedar Rapids.
$5000 - Cedar Rapids Rotary Appliance Drive - As a part of the recovery plan, the seven Rotary clubs of the Cedar Rapids metro area have chosen to assist with one particular pressing need experienced by nearly every family affected by the flood.
